Themba Zwane gives update on Mamelodi Sundowns future

Mamelodi Sundowns stalwart Themba Zwane has confirmed he is uncertain about what the future holds for him at the club as his contract runs up next month.

Mshishi, who would be 37 years old by the time the new season starts in August, has enjoyed a trophy laden 15-year stay that includes nine Premiership titles and two CAF Champions League crowns and saw his 2025/26 season hampered by injury.

Upon his return from Rabat at OR Tambo International Airport this morning, Zwane was unable to provide a definitive response to what the next year looks like for him.

"To be honest, I don;' know. I don't want to lie, I don't know. But, for now, I'm just enjoying this moment with the guys and we'll see when the time goes," said Zwane.

"But obviously my wish is to stay here and to stay here and finish my career at Mamelodi Sundowns."

The Tembisa-born playmaker has now become the first South African to win two CCL titles as a player, and took a dig at former Orlando Pirates striker Jerry Skhosana after becoming the most decorated player from the East Rand township.

"I feel happy, as some of you know, where I come from in Tembisa, there is someone that won Champions League before, so my aim was to set my own standard and be a good example to the young ones also," he added.

"And thanks to my teammates, my chairman, the coach – thanks for the opportunity that they gave me."

Zwane further highlighted the importance of reclaiming the continental championship, which has eluded the club for the past 10 years since their maiden triumph in 2016.

"Obviously, as you know, it was very important for us to win this trophy, it is important to the team, important to us as players, important to Masandawana family.

"And, ja, the culture of the team is to win and create history, and that's what we're all about," 'Shikabala' concluded.
