The Mares are seeking redemption following their 3-0 defeat to defending champions Zambia in their opening match on Thursday. With their tournament hopes hanging in the balance, Botswana are determined to bounce back with a strong performance.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Nkutlwisang admitted that adjustments have been made to the team’s approach as they chase a crucial victory.
“Yes, we are facing Eswatini and the expectation is that it’s a must-win match. We have to play well today. The aim is to remain in the competition, and that has really pushed us to adjust our game plan. The mandate for this game has been clearly articulated to the players — they know exactly what is at stake,” said Nkutlwisang.
The 45-year-old mentor revealed that her technical team conducted a thorough analysis of Eswatini to ensure they are well-prepared in all departments.
“We’ve observed that they bring a lot of energy, so we need to make good use of the spaces around them. Training has gone well and we have a clear plan on how to approach the game. Above all, we need to maintain a positive mindset,” she added.
Nkutlwisang further emphasised the significance of performing well in the COSAFA Women’s Championship, particularly after Botswana failed to qualify for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
“We understand the importance of doing well in this tournament - it’s our only opportunity in continental football this year. We have a point to prove after missing out on qualification for WAFCON. Once again, the players are fully aware of what is at stake,” she concluded.
