Sizwe Sibiya not surprised by TS Galaxy success in final quarter of the HWBSL

TS Galaxy Queens coach Sizwe Sibiya says it is not a shock that his team surpassed the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies to top the Hollywoodbets Super League log.

This after their hard fought 2-1 win over City Lads at the Walmer Sports Precinct on Saturday.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Sibiya says the women’s domestic league is generally competitive and it is no surprise that they find themselves leading the pack with 43 points, and two points ahead of Sundowns.

“It's not a shock honestly. We have had seasons where TUT topped the log, while I was there. We also had a season where UWC topped the log with more games in hand. Last season UJ was on the same boat. It reflects the competitiveness of the league’’ said Sibiya.

Sibiya also expressed disappointment over the pitch conditions at Walmer Sports Precinct, stating that playing in such conditions further derails women’s football.

“It was always gonna be tough coming to PE and getting a point, never mind 3points... We are obviously happy with the win. Under all circumstances, the pitch was bad, we did not play our normal game. But the team put in a great shift,’’ added Sibiya.

TS Galaxy has remained one of the most consistent teams in the 2025 league campaign, claiming 13 wins in 17 outings. The 35-year-old mentor credits depth and discipline for the team’s success.

“We are working so hard to keep the consistency. With the depth also in our squad. That obviously is a plus for us. We take it one game at a time. Staying humble, being disciplined and in good health, physically and mentally,” he expressed.
