Siviwe Nkwali opens up on joining progressive and ambitious Stellenbosch FC

South African U20 international Siviwe Nkwali says joining Stellenbosch FC was a no-brainer, given the Premier Soccer League (PSL) top-flight side’s growth in recent seasons.

Speaking to SABC Sport, ahead of the sidelines of Amajita training sessions at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt, Nkwali is looking to take his game to the level of Stellies.

The outgoing Cape Town Spurs utility player, who is joining Stellies as a free agent in July, says he’s joining a progressive club.

"They are playing in a lot of competitions, they are playing CAF, they are challenging for the league so it's a good environment for me. I just wanna learn step by step," Nkwali said.

In this Amajita team, Nkwali is already partnering at centre-back with one of his new teammates at Stellies, Tylon Smith, and there’s Moegamat Abrahams as well.

"Yeah, it's a good feeling because I'l know them from here and then together we'll be the same team there," he added.

It hasn’t been easy for Nkwali. He last played competitively towards the end of last year, when contract renewal negotiations with Spurs reached a stalemate.

During this period, the 19-year-old reveals how he’s managed to keep fit and the support from his mother.

"First of all, I would like to give my mum praises for motivating me because she always told me to keep going and I was just training with Cape Town Spurs with the ABC team. So, I also told myself that I will push through until whenever the season ends and that's all I did. I'll never give up, I love this game."
