Miguel Cardoso confirms six-months blow for Khuliso Mudau

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed that defender Khuliso Mudau will be sidelined for at least six months after suffering a serious Achilles tendon injury.

The Bafana Bafana international was hurt during Sundowns’ 2-0 Betway Premiership victory over Marumo Gallants on Wednesday night.

Speaking ahead of Sundowns’ MTN8 semifinal first leg against Golden Arrows on Sunday, Cardoso confirmed that scans revealed a complete tear, leaving Mudau facing a lengthy rehabilitation process.

"It's a big loss for us when you lose one of the best right backs in Africa. He will undergo surgery next Monday and then begin the rehabilitation process."

Cardoso said Sundowns will now rely on Zuko Mdunyelwa and Thapelo Morena as adequate cover during Mudau’s absence.

"Unfortunately these things happen in football and you just cannot control it, but we will manage it in the best way. It's important to remember that we have two Bafana Bafana internationals that can play in that position, so for the moment all of the trust goes to them. However, as important as individuals are, the team's performance determines the results."

The Portuguese mentor insisted that Sundowns would not be in a hurry to go into the transfer market out of panic, but will rather assess the situation over time.
