Real Madrid maintain perfect start with Levante drubbing

Real Madrid extended their perfect start to the La Liga season with a convincing 4-1 win over Levante powered by a second-half brace from Kylian Mbappe.

There were also standout performances from Vinicius Junior and 18-year-old Franco Mastantuono.

Despite a few early chances for the hosts - most notably a close-range effort from Ivan Romero and a missed header by Adrian De La Fuente - it was Madrid who struck first. Vinícius broke the deadlock in the 28th minute with a superb outside-foot finish into the far corner.

Just ten minutes later, he turned provider, picking out Mastantuono with a crossfield ball that the teenager fired into the top corner for his first goal since arriving from River Plate.

Levante pulled one back shortly after the break, as Karl Etta-Eyong headed in from close range to make it 2-1.

But any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed. Mbappe won and converted a penalty in the 64th minute with a calm Panenka finish, then added his second two minutes later after rounding goalkeeper Mat Ryan following a clever through ball from Arda Guler.

The result keeps Madrid five points clear at the top of the table with six wins from six, while manager Xabi Alonso edges closer to a club record.

Levante, still adjusting to life back in the top flight, were left to reflect on a tough lesson against the ruthless league leaders.
