Carabao Cup wrap: Liverpool overcome Southampton in late drama, Chelsea survive Lincoln

New signing Alexander Isak scored his first goal for the club just before halftime. Southampton's Shea Charles equalised in the 76th minute, but Liverpool's Hugo Ekitike, who had just been brought on, scored the winning goal in the 85th minute.

Ekitike, however, was immediately sent off for a second yellow card after removing his shirt in celebration.

Chelsea survive scare at Lincoln

Chelsea had to come from behind to avoid a major shock against League One Lincoln City, winning 2-1.

Rob Street gave the home side a deserved lead just before halftime after an uncharacteristic error from Enzo Fernández. However, whatever was said at the break worked wonders for the Blues.

Two quickfire goals from teenagers Tyrique George and Facundo Buonanotte early in the second half turned the tie on its head and secured Chelsea's progression.

Brighton's ruthless display at Barnsley

Brighton put on a commanding performance, thumping League One side Barnsley 6-0 at Oakwell.

The star of the show was Paraguay international Diego Gomez, who scored four goals, including a first-half hat-trick.

Gomez's impressive display, which included two spectacular long-range strikes, set the tone for a dominant win. Late goals from Harry Howell and Yasin Ayari sealed a comprehensive victory for the Seagulls.

Cardiff spring a surprise at Burnley

Championship side Cardiff City pulled off an upset, knocking out Premier League Burnley with a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor.

The Bluebirds took a deserved two-goal lead in the first half through Joel Colwill and Callum Robinson. Despite Zian Flemming pulling a goal back for Burnley after the break, Cardiff's resilient defence held firm.

The Welsh side managed the game expertly and celebrated a hard-fought win to advance to the next round.

Fulham edge past stubborn Cambridge

Fulham survived a potential cup upset against League Two Cambridge United, securing a narrow 1-0 win at Craven Cottage.

The home side struggled to break down a determined Cambridge defence for much of the match. However, Emile Smith Rowe, a summer signing, provided the crucial breakthrough in the second half, tapping in a Timothy Castagne cross. The goal was enough to send Marco Silva's side into the fourth round.

Wolves take down Everton

Wolverhampton Wanderers progressed to the next round of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win over Everton at Molineux.

Marshall Munetsi scored the opening goal for Wolves in the first half after a save from Everton's goalkeeper was parried into his path.

Substitute Tolu Arokodare sealed the victory for the home side with a goal late in the game, securing a comfortable win and a spot in the fourth round.
