Real Madrid handed Federico Valverde injury boost ahead of Racing clash

Real Madrid have received a major injury boost after medical tests confirmed that captain Federico Valverde has no significant muscle injury following his early withdrawal from Sunday's El Clasico victory over Barcelona.

The Uruguay international was substituted midway through the second half, raising concerns about his fitness ahead of Madrid's next La Liga fixture against Racing Santander on Sunday.

However, Wednesday's tests ruled out a serious muscular problem, leaving head coach Jose Mourinho hopeful of having Valverde available for the trip to the Estadio El Sardinero.

Madrid also received positive news on Thibaut Courtois, who is nearing the end of his recovery from the flu that forced him to miss the Barcelona match.

The Belgian goalkeeper is expected to return against Racing, with Andriy Lunin likely to make way despite his important contribution to the El Clasico win.

Meanwhile, Arda Guler trained in the gym as he manages a physical overload. The club expects the midfielder to be available for next weekend's match.

Madrid's scheduled presentation of their new BMW vehicles, supplied by the club's sponsor, was postponed as a mark of respect for the victims of a tragic train accident on the high-speed railway line between Madrid and Seville.
