Petersen unfazed by Bafana Bafana talk, doubles down on delivering for his club

In-form Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen has reiterated that his focus is to continue to perform consistently well for his club and then the elusive Bafana Bafana call-up can come.

Petersen has been arguably the best goalkeeper in the league this season, producing 15 clean sheets in 23 matches across all competitions, including 11 in the Betway Premiership. Ahead of last year's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, there were calls for him to form part of the national team, and he has since left that decision in the hands of the national selectors.

"Like I've said before, my focus is at the club, and that's how I'm going to get into the national team – by focusing on my performances, being consistent, and doing well for the team. God will open doors for me," said Petersen

Since the Nedbank Cup final last season, Petersen has never looked back, he’s owned the number one jersey for Amakhosi. The former Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits goalkeeper says it was all about seizing the opportunity.

Petersen’s number two at Chiefs, Bruce Bvuma, is also full of praise for his teammate and says Petersen is, without a doubt, one of the top goalkeepers in the country at the moment.

"Ja, definitely. Brandon is the among the best goalkeepers this season. He has been working very hard, and the numbers are there.

"Not only the clean sheets, but his performances as well – he is definitely among the best so far, and based on his record, he has been the best goalkeeper this season."

Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze says that, besides being the captain of the team, the 31-year-old's character has been that of a responsible player, who leads by example and backs it up as a good goalkeeper as well.
