Pirates sweating over Mofokeng's fitness ahead of Lioli clash

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has revealed that star midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng might not be available for tomorrow’s CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg clash against Lioli FC of Lesotho.

Mofokeng was a notable absentee at Pirates’ training session on Friday morning at Orlando Stadium, which attracted questions from the media about the 20-year-old.

Ouaddou says he is waiting for an update from his medical team.

"I have to speak with my medical department to see what is going on. Rele is an important player for us but we have to speak with the medical department, I can't tell you more about him,” Ouaddou said.

“About the second question, I don't need to see my players more because I know them. I had two months, three months especially in the preparation to see the level of my players, I know them very well.

“Tomorrow what I can tell you is that we will put a competitive team because it's a very important game for me, for the players and for the club."

Ouaddou’s team played the Lesotho champions at the Toyota Stadium last weekend, where they put them to the sword by three goals to nil.

The Moroccan coach is, however, leaving nothing to chance in the second leg and still demands a strong performance from his side in Soweto.

"For me, it was only the first half, we have the second half to play tomorrow and it's very important for us. We don't think that it will be easy, we don't take it easy and for me we have to really show our superiority tomorrow in front of our fans,” the coach added.

“I hope our fans will come and pack the stadium because we need them, like I said, it's always the 12th man. My boys are ready, my boys know exactly what the target is tomorrow."

Pirates were knocked out of the CAF Champions League at the semi-final stage by eventual winners Pyramids FC last season, and have had a few near misses in trying to win it for the first time since 1995.
