Nkosinathi Sibisi looks to Czechia for Bafana redemption

Bafana Bafana defender Nkosinathi Sibisi insists all is not lost following the side’s 2-0 defeat to hosts Mexico in their FIFA World Cup opener.

South Africa got off on the wrong foot at the global showpiece and midfielders Siphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane were casualties of a frustrating afternoon having both received red cards.

Sibisi, however, still believes with additional work behind the scenes Bafana have a chance against Czechia and South Korea.

"We know what we have to do. We have to go back, analyse and recover so that we can be as fresh as possible for the next game. The opportunity is still there so not all is lost, and I think we saw some glimpses of what we can do, but it just wasn't enough."

Contrary to public opinion, Sibisi argued that overall, their performance against Mexico was far from shambolic.

"We are very disappointed with the result, but I don't think it was a bad game from our side. It was just the final ball whenever we were attacking that was lacking."

Asked for his opinion on Sithole and Zwane getting sent off, Sibisi said the officials were there to call it how they see it.
