This follows his appointment at the Chilli Boys ahead of the 2025/26 PSL season. Badela replaces Thabo September, who left the club at the end of last season after finishing in 11th position on the Betway Premiership log.
Badela recently worked as Mokwena’s assistant at Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca, and says he’s grateful to have been given that opportunity.
"I'll forever be grateful for the opportunity to have worked with coach Rulani. He is someone who is very special to me, I don't think I would be here talking to you if I did not have Rulani guiding me in my career," said the new Chilli Boys coach.
This is Badela’s first head coaching role in South Africa’s top flight, having previously been part of Lehlohonolo Seema’s technical team at the club back in 2021.
He has also been a coach for the Sundowns DDC team before his stint in Morocco. He says this is an opportunity to test himself at the highest level.
"I see this as an exciting challenge, and not as a daunting experience. I would like to thank the chairman of the club for believing in me, and for trusting me with such a big responsibility.
"I will make sure that we work very hard, and that this team operates at a high level throughout the season," said the ambitious young coach.
In terms of what style of play he brings to the club, the 35-year-old from Sterkpruit says, that will depend on the kind of players he has at his disposal.
He lauded the work done by coaches Kwanele Kopo and September, and revealed that he’s been watching some of their work to decide on how to move forward with the team.
Badela also says chairman Chippa Mpengesi gave him a mandate to not only remain in the Betway Premiership, but also to compete for silverware in the coming season.
Chippa have also made another key announcement today, with Sinesipho Mali’s return to the club after six years, confirmed as the new Sporting Director.
