My job is on the pitch – Grant Kekana sidesteps Sundowns leak storm

Grant Kekana has refused to be drawn into the growing controversy surrounding the suspension of performance analyst Mario Masha ahead of their CAF Champions League showdown against MC Alger.

SABC Sport reported that Masha, one of Mamelodi Sundowns' club’s longest-serving staff members, was temporarily sidelined amid allegations he leaked tactical information to former coach Rulani Mokwena, now in charge of the Algerian side.

Speaking after Sundowns were drawn to face TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup last 16, Kekana insisted his focus remained strictly on matters on the pitch.

"No, I think my job is to play football. I think the technical side and management are taking care of that, and ja, that is all that I can comment on regarding that situation," said Kekana

What Kekana was comfortable to discuss was the noise from both their own fans as well as opposition supporters about the recent mixed results.

There’s also a faction that has called for coach Miguel Cardoso to be sacked.

"Yeah, I think there's a lot of noise, especially surrounding us, but it happens when you've been at the top for so long. I think it's something that we, especially the senior players, come together and even tell the younger guys not to focus too much on it because it's expected – everyone wants to take the throne from us."

On facing MC Alger in a must-win clash at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday, Kekana admitted it was arguably one of the most important matches of their campaign.

Kekana added that facing MC Alger, Saint Eloi Lupopo and Al Hilal proved a lot tougher than initially thought.

He also touched on a reunion with Mokwena at Loftus.

"It would be good. I think he [Rulani Mokwena] played his part at Sundowns, and we will always appreciate him, but we know on the day there is no relationship during the 90 minutes. It's going to be difficult, and then after the game we will probably shake hands."
