The veteran centre-back was responding to questions about whether Sundowns face greater competition this season after surrendering their title to Orlando Pirates last campaign.
Sundowns host Marumo Gallants at Loftus Stadium tonight, aiming to move level with the Buccaneers on points after three matches and Kekana insists the African champions remain a formidable force.
"If you looked at the way we played against Kaizer Chiefs I think we dominated the ball, so we are still Mamelodi Sundowns, we are still the African champions and sometimes we are not going to start the season sprinting 100 miles an hour,” Kekana said.
“You know, it's a build up for us and as I said in the beginning, there are a lot of positives that we can take from the games that we played. I don't think we lost a game this season, in these three games and in all the games I think we were dominating. So, that's where we are right now."
Another challenge early on for Sundowns has been the five goals conceded in three matches across all competitions, but Kekana is not panicking.
"Firstly we don't concede as defenders and set pieces should be something that we enjoy defending. It's just been unfortunate this season, maybe lapse of concentration here and there but it's something that we are still working on now and we obviously want to get better but I don't think it's something that's making us panic in any way,” he added.
“It's just about us improving how we deal with setpieces."
