Mosa Lebusa offers modest response on Mamelodi Sundowns role

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa has downplayed his notable contribution to the team ahead of the CAF Champions League final.

The 32-year-old is finishing off the season strong with regular game time having initially appeared a fringe player under coach Miguel Cardoso until teammate Lucas Suarez came under heavy criticism recently.

Lebusa started both semi-final legs against Al Ahly and proved his worth in Cardoso’s eyes, but the player was modest when this was pointed out.

"I think everyone is very important to the team, but on my side, I haven't really been playing, and what I need to do is to support everyone that is playing, and when my time comes, I'll grab it with both hands," said the centre half.

The former Ajax Cape Town player emphasised that with Sundowns, you have to grab the chance to feature when it comes your way.

"Before the semifinals, the guys were saying to me, this is when we're going to need you so I have to be on my A-game. At this club, it's a matter of one point you're playing, the next moment you are given a chance that you need to capatilise on," explained Lebusa.

Lebusa is hoping Sundowns take advantage of playing the first leg of the Champions League final at home, as they will not underestimate Pyramids in their own backyard next week.

Pyramids will rely heavily on striker Fiston Mayele, who scored twice to help the Egyptian side eliminate Orlando Pirates in the semi-finals.

Lebusa admits they have to keep a close watch on the forward.
