Mamelodi Sundowns to loan out starlet after CT City deal

SABC Sport can reveal that Mamelodi Sundowns are set to loan out promising forward Jody Ah Shene after agreeing a transfer deal with Cape Town City.

A club-to-club fee has been finalised between Sundowns and City, pending personal terms and a routine medical, but the reigning Betway Premiership champions have opted for a different route.

Ah Shene will spend the remainder of the 2025/26 season on loan at University of Pretoria.

City, who were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season, have endured a mass exodus of players in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old striker is now the latest departure as he prepares to link up with the South Africa U20 squad for the FIFA World Cup in Chile under coach Raymond Mdaka.

Sundowns’ decision to place him at AmaTuks rather than loan him back to City appears strategic as the Tshwane giants enjoy a strong working relationship with the University side, a partnership that has been in place since 2021.

This will allow The Brazilians to keep Ah Shene closer to their radar, monitoring his progress with an eye for the future.

Ah Shene's career began to rise last year when Eric Tinkler promoted him to City's senior team in March. Since then, he has already featured in more than 25 Premiership matches, gaining valuable topflight experience.

Should the deal be completed as expected, Ah Shene will become Sundowns’ third signing of the current transfer window, following the arrivals of defender Fawaaz Basadien and midfielder Katlego "Tsiki" Ntshabeleng.

However, unlike the other two, his immediate future lies on loan at AmaTuks.
