Mamelodi Sundowns blow as Themba Zwane is ruled out for a month

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso expects to be without Themba Zwane for at least a month following the player's injury in the 3-0 victory over Magesi on Sunday.

Zwane was only just making his return for the Brazilians but suffered another injury setback, with a thigh pull.

The 36-year-old was a 64th minute replacement for Tashreeq Matthews but left the field in some discomfort shortly before the end of the game.

Speaking after his side's 1-1 draw with Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, Cardoso says the player has been assessed and will be missing for some time.

"Themba Zwane has a muscle injury, grade two which will take him out of a team for a period of little bit more than a month, around the month," explained the head coach.

"Let's see, it depends on how he can react to the treatment that he is going to receive. But obviously, he will be a player that we will have to protect in terms of his return to train and play.

"So, let's go easy so that we can prepare him for the future because he is still an important player for us."

Sundowns are next in action against Durban City on Saturday. They face Golden Arrows, Richards Bay and Sekhukhune United in Betway Premiership matches in October as well as two CAF Champions League preliminary round ties.
