Malebane earned her second nomination in the School Sport Star of the Year category, where she is up against Chloe Stuart and Ziya Mohanlall.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Malebane says the recognition is a testament to the hard work and sacrifices she has made throughout the season at both club and national team level.
“Being nominated for the gsport Awards again is a huge honour and something I never take for granted. It’s a reflection of the hard work, consistency, and sacrifices made throughout the season, not just by me but by everyone who has supported my journey.
“As a footballer, it’s encouraging to be recognised among so many incredible women in sport,” said Malebane.
Malebane also thanked her supporters and encouraged them to vote for her.
“I’m truly honoured to be nominated once again. This recognition reflects years of dedication, resilience, and the commitment to always give my best on and off the pitch. If you believe in my journey and what I stand for, I’d be grateful for your vote. Your support motivates me to keep pushing boundaries and to continue inspiring the next generation of footballers,” added Malebane.
Away from the awards, Malebane will captain the South Africa U17 women’s national team in this afternoon’s final round of FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup African qualifiers against Kenya at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.
“It’s a massive game for us because it’s the final hurdle on the road to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. We know exactly what’s at stake, and that’s the motivation driving us as a team. As captain, my responsibility is to lead by example, keep the team united, and ensure we remain composed under pressure. Opportunities like this don’t come around often, so we’re determined to make the most of it.
“Our goal is clear; to qualify for the World Cup and make the country proud. We know it won’t be easy, but we’re ready to fight for every ball to achieve that dream.”
