Linda Motlhalo: Banyana Banyana can defend WAFCON Crown

Banyana Banyana creative midfielder, Linda Motlhalo believes they have the capacity to defend their WAFCON crown in July.

This follows South Africa clinching the COSAFA Three-Nation Series Cup, after their two convincing wins over both Botswana and Zambia on home soil.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Motlhalo is adamant that the players and the technical team fully understand what needs to be done to retain the title in Morocco.

"WAFCON is just around the corner, and we are obviously feeling the pressure, but I always say that pressure is a privilege. We may be the title holders, but we are going there as title contenders with a point to prove," asserted the talented international.

Banyana managed a 3-2 win over Botswana in their Three-Nation series opener, followed by a convincing 2-0 win over Zambia in the final match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday.

Motlhalo shares her analysis of the two matches.

"Botswana and Zambia play different styles of football, but what I've learned from Zambia is that they have adapted and they no longer solely rely on their fast strikers, but we as Banyana Banyana managed to stifle them, whilst still playing our own game," explained Motlhalo.

The Glasgow City winger further elaborates that it means a lot for Banyana Banyana to have won the Three-Nations trophy in pursuit of WAFCON glory.

Motlhalo further praised some of the youngsters in the squad who boldly raised their hands for a possible call-up to the final WAFCON squad.
