Chippa United set for 17th coaching change as Lehlohonolo Seema leaves

Chippa United have begun another search for the club’s next head coach with SABC Sport reliably told that Lehlohonolo Seema will be leaving.

Seema helped the Chilli Boys escape relegation on the final day of the season after he was brought back to lead the team’s remaining four DStv Premiership fixtures late last month.

He replaced Kurt Lentjies, who initially stepped in for Morgan Mammila. Mammila had taken over the coaching reins when Daine Klate was sacked just seven matches into the 2022/23 campaign.

Seema managed one win, a draw and two defeats – enough to guarantee Chippa's safety from the drop and maintain their Premier Soccer League topflight status at the weekend.

Indications are chairman Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi will bring in a new coach before the start of the next season with Siyabulela Gwambi, the assistant to all of the tacticians that were in charge over the last few months, not expected to be installed in the now vacant seat.

No names have been mentioned as yet, but with PSL clubs going on a short break until July there’s  time for Chippa to exhaust several options before making a final decision.

Mpengesi is notorious for hiring and firing, with over 30 coaching changes – including ones that have had more than two spells in the dugout – in the last 12 years, and 16 of those coming in the previous six years.

Seema is now available to take on a new challenge.
