Lehlohonolo Majoro predicts thrilling finish in Golden Boot race

The race for the Golden Boot is set for a dramatic finish, according to former striker Lehlohonolo Majoro, who knows all too well how fine the margins can be after narrowly missing out himself.

As it stands, only Golden Arrows talisman Junior Dion and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Iqraam Rayners have reached double figures, with 12 and 10 goals respectively.

Majoro remains undecided on who will ultimately claim the award but believes the battle at the top is delivering high entertainment value as the season edges towards its conclusion.

"It's always good to see familiar faces competjingseason in and season out, and also new faces joining the race.

"I almost had the Golden boot award after losing it in the last game to the smiling assassin, Knowledge Musona.

"As a striker they always judge you based on the number of goals that you score."

In recent years, Peter Shalulile and Siyabonga Nomvethe are the only two to reach the 20-goal mark in a single season.

Majoro longs for those days and says his strikers academy – MESSA – has been established to help forwards find their scoring boots.

"We always say that we want to see our strikers getting into double digits, but only that, anything above 15 or 20 would be really impressive.

"Peter Shalulile is the one who managed to score 21 goals in 2024, and that's the standard we will have to see. Hence we have academies like this.

"When people think of an academy, they immediately think it's for youngsters, but no, it's for everyone. I believe through such programmes that we have like MESSA, we will see more goals going in."

Majoro concluded by adding that he is not overly concerned about who will lead the line for Bafana Bafana at the World Cup.
