La Liga: Sevilla relegation threat worsens, Elche claim vital win

Ten Man Rayo hold Sociedad in goal fest

Rayo Vallecano held Real Sociedad to a thrilling 3-3 draw in their mid table clash at the Estadio de Vallecas.

Vallecano equalized late in injury time through Alemao after coming back from 3-1 down.

The match was shrouded with controversy when VAR overturned a 69th minute Rato goal and awarded a penalty to the visitors for their third goal.

The result sees the home side move up to 11th on the table, while Sociedad stay eighth.

Sevilla woes continue in loss to Osasuna

Sevilla were defeated 2-1 by Osasuna at the El Sadar Stadium to worsen their relegation fears.

Neil Muapay opened the scoring for the visitors in the 69th minute before month placed Osasuna rallied back with goals from Raul Garcia (80') and Alejandro Catena in stoppage time to claim victory.

The result was Sevilla's fifth in six matches leaving them ailing in 18th spot.

Elche edge Oviedo to ease relegation threat

Elche recorded their fourth win in five matches after a 2-1 result against Real Oviedo at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere.

Two early first half goals from Pedro Bigas and Gonzalo Valera were enough to claim the points despite Ilyas Chiara pulling a goal back in the 76th minute for Oviedo.

The visitors now occupy 13th spot on the table while Oviedo remain bottom of the log.

Villarreal move closer to Champions League qualification

Villarreal recorded their fifth consecutive victory in La Liga when they  beat Celta Vigo 2-1 at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

The Yellow Submarine took a two goal lead with the first half hour with goals from Gerard Moreno (penalty) and Nicolas Pepe.

Celta managed to  get on the scoresheet after they were also given a penalty in the 73rd minute but could not find an equalizer.

Villarreal now sit firmly in third spot while Delta slip to seventh.
