Real Madrid crush Racing in La Liga as Athletic win Basque derby

Real Madrid produced a first-half masterclass to beat Racing Santander 3-0, while Getafe fought back to defeat Sevilla 3-1 in La Liga.

Valencia ended their winless run with a 1-0 victory over Elche, while Athletic Club claimed Basque derby honours with a 2-1 win against Real Sociedad.

Real Madrid deliver first-half masterclass

Real Madrid ended Racing Santander's unbeaten home record with a convincing 3-0 victory, scoring all three goals before half-time.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Matteo Prati brought him down inside the area. Racing responded positively, but Thibaut Courtois produced an excellent save to deny Iker Luque.

Real doubled their advantage midway through the first half when Arda Guler played Jude Bellingham through on goal. The England midfielder rounded goalkeeper Julien Agirrezabala before finishing into an empty net. Yan Diomande then completed a devastating spell with a spectacular volley into the top corner.

Racing tried to respond after the break, but Mbappe struck the post as Real continued to threaten. A potential penalty for the hosts was also overturned following a VAR review. The victory was Real's sixth consecutive win in all competitions, keeping them in touch with Barcelona at the top.

Getafe punish Sevilla with second-half comeback

Getafe produced an impressive second-half comeback to beat Sevilla 3-1, ending a three-year wait for a home victory against their Andalusian opponents.

Sevilla took the lead through Kike Salas, who headed home Felix Correia's corner. Getafe goalkeeper David Soria kept his team in the contest with an important save before the hosts improved after half-time.

Martin Satriano set up Enes Unal for the equaliser with just over 20 minutes remaining. The pair then combined again, with Satriano producing a clever finish to put Getafe ahead after a VAR review overturned the initial offside decision.

Sevilla's misery increased when Manuel Bueno was sent off for a last-man foul. Orel Mangala completed the scoring with a powerful finish to secure three important points. Getafe climbed to 12th, while Sevilla suffered their first defeat of the season against a team outside the top three.

Sadiq strikes as Valencia end winless run

Valencia secured their first victory under new coach Javier Aguirre with a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Elche.

The hosts enjoyed most of the possession and created the better opportunities, with Lucas Cepeda hitting the woodwork and goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski making an important save to deny Roy Revivo.

Elche continued to press after the interval, but Valencia gradually became more dangerous. Their breakthrough arrived with just over 20 minutes remaining when substitute Umar Sadiq finished a rapid counter-attack.

Elche pushed for an equaliser but could not find a way through. The defeat extended their wait for a first home victory this season, while Valencia ended a four-match winless run and moved to within a point of their opponents.

Athletic Club claim Basque derby honours

Athletic Club secured local bragging rights with a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad at San Mames, extending their winning run in all competitions to three matches.

Inaki Williams opened the scoring in the 14th minute, lifting Nico Williams' excellent through ball over goalkeeper Alex Remiro. Real Sociedad responded through Luka Sucic, whose low shot brought the visitors level.

Athletic regained the lead in first-half stoppage time when Alex Berenguer converted a penalty after Nico Williams was brought down inside the area.

Both teams created opportunities after the break, but Athletic held on despite late pressure from Sociedad. The victory moved them to within four points of fifth-placed Sociedad, with a game in hand, while ending the visitors' six-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
