Amakhosi will take on Scottland FC in the third installment of the Toyota Cup on Sunday July 26 in Rustenburg, with Billiat turning out for the Zimbabwean champions these days. He spent five underwhelming seasons at Naturena before heading back home to ply his trade there, and says he’s just excited to come up against one of the biggest teams on the continent.
"Facing Kaizer Chiefs, of course, it is one of the biggest teams in Africa. We are all excited as a club to just be part of a club that is going to make history. Meeting Kaizer Chiefs is just amazing on its own. Personally, I don't feel like there's any point to prove. I've worked for Kaizer Chiefs, and now I work for Scotland. We are just looking forward to a great game on the day," said Billiat.
While the match will be a pre-season test for Chiefs, it comes in the middle of the season for Scottland, who are seven points clear at the top of the ZPSL with 12 games to go this year. The 35-year-old says a good performance at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium will help keep their confidence up as they target a second league title in a row, and in just their second season in the top flight.
Billiat initially signed for Yadah Stars FC when he moved to Zimbabwe, and says he found it a lot easier back home than he thought he would.
"I spent most of my career in South Africa. And coming back home I thought it was going to be difficult but I just did very well and I think I found a way to enjoy and still love what I do which is playing football."
He added that the ZPSL is a strong league that he’s enjoyed playing in, while also highlighting the challenges it faces that can still be improved.
