Khabo Zitha celebrates Sasol League promotion with Mamelodi 11 Stars

Banyana Banyana legend Khabo Zitha says it took passion and resilience to lead her team Mamelodi 11 Stars Ladies FC to Sasol League Gauteng promotion.

Zitha has been self-funding the team for the past four years in the SAFA Tshwane Women’s Regional League.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Zitha says she is glad she didn’t give up on this tough journey and remained firm in being an advocate for women’s football.

“Beyond the four years, I can say it is actually an eight year journey of investing in women’s football. I am very emotional just thinking about what it took for us to get here," said Zitha.

"People know that I am passionate about the women’s game, and I believe that is the main reason we celebrate this success, it is all about being resilient and not giving up on one's dreams.

"I am proud of these players, I am proud that they listen to my guidance. For me, it is definitely a team effort."

11 Stars Ladies broke a league record with 20 win from 20 matches, wrapping up the league with a total of 60 points, and Zitha attributes the team’s success to the emotional and the financial support they receive from community members.

“We didn’t have funds to transport the team to games, we had to ask community members to assist. I had to have a conversation with the parents to make sure that they bought into the idea," she detailed.

"So we did get the support we needed, but I am impressed with the team’s consistency and making sure that we finish number one for 2025."

The 47-year-old mentor has shared the team's expectations heading into their maiden Sasol League Gauteng campaign in 2026, stating that she wants the team to maintain the winning momentum.

“You know women’s football has so many challenges, it is difficult to get a consistent sponsor, but we are grateful for the opportunity to move a step further.

"I just want us to pick up where we left off. We know it gets tougher at the top, but I believe in these players. For me, they keep outdoing themselves, and I am glad to witness this great progress,” she expressed.
