Modiko, speaking to SABC Sport after a recent friendly match against the soon-to-be-introduced Chiefs women’s team, says Amakhosi seem to have assembled a very strong team to play in the Sasol women’s provincial league in Gauteng.
Last year Chiefs entered into a partnership with Springs’ Home Sweepers, a team owned by one of their legends and former Banyana Banyana head coach Joseph “Skheshekheshe” Mkhonza, and now they seem to be moving to the next gear.
"It's very important I think we've been talking about asking the PSL teams, the professional teams to come on board and actually support the women's teams and now we're happy to see a Kaizer Chiefs actually saying it's not something that we are just saying for words, we are also putting action behind it,” Modiko said.
“I mean the team that they've put today is a world team and it's a well experienced team. It's a new team by virtue of its name but if you look at the players that were on the pitch today, I think Sasol League is gonna be surprising, it's gonna be exciting as well."
Yesterday, Chiefs released an invitation to an important function this coming week, inviting the media to a launch and an announcement of one of the club’s most significant events.
A team like Chiefs could also have afforded to buy Hollywoodbets Super League (HWBSL) status, with the newly promoted Diepkloof Ladies having recently had their status on the market.
But Amakhosi have always been very clear about entering this space gradually, and Modiko says that is also a good move.
"One would say that but I also think maybe it's the building blocks. They want to have a little bit of experience. It's a new team, it's a new coaching staff, so maybe it's their plan but I think it's a long short plan,’ she added.
“The players that were there, the playing patterns that I was seeing from them, they will take the Sasol League by storm."
