Godfrey Sapula believes Sundowns Ladies players gave life to his plans

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies coach Godfrey Sapula credits his players for giving life to his plans - which saw him secure his first title with the team.

This after he led Sundowns to their sixth consecutive Hollywoodbets Super League title.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Sapula says he enjoys leading players who not only show up at training but who can also grind results on match days.

"For me, firstly it's to give a big congratulations to the players because yes, the technical team and everybody, the supporters, everybody that gave us the support but I can tell you, the people that put our ideas to life it's the players,” Sapula said.

“We can coach, prepare, do everything at training but it’s the players who must come on matchday, do exactly what is expected out of them. The pressure and the spot is on them and I want to give a big congratulations to these wonderful players, I think they've done exceptionally well this season."

Sapula coached the Sundowns Academy for five years since 2017, and stepped up to coaching a senior team for the first time this year - in Sundowns Ladies.

He admits that he is still adapting to the women’s game and believes next year will be an even better season for the team.

"You know, in a team like Sundowns, with big ambitions you are expected to play to win every single football match and I knew when I came here that it was expected that we win the league,” the coach added.

“But I can tell you that the adaptation process had to take place, I had to learn a thing or two about the women's game and I had to adapt. I think I'm still adapting, the team is doing well but I can tell you there's still room to improve,I think we will do much better next season."
