Kaizer Chiefs to offload players in bid to manage oversized squad

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi says they are working on releasing some players on loan before the transfer window closes following Monday, 22 September.

Chiefs have signed 11 new players this season, boosting their attack and midfield in particular and this has also led to an increase in their squad size.

Last season, Nabi had said that he prefers to work with a smaller squad and says, through the Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Junior’s office, they will be addressing this.

"Yes, it's true that the squad is big and the technical staff and management through the sporting director Mr Kaizer Junior, the club is working on options to try to offload the squad,” Nabi said.

“Especially to give the possibility to some players that didn't have the consistency or didn't have enough time to get more game time in other teams and as well to some young players to get the experience needed in the PSL in other clubs. Everyone is aware of that and working around the clock."

In the modern day, clubs can put some conditions when loaning out players, in terms of how their players should be utilised and the minutes they should be getting as well.

In some of the Chiefs’ previous loan deals, this hasn’t seemed to be the case, and now they have an opportunity to rectify that.

"About the players that can go on loan or can stay, there is some situation that you feel that the player has potential when he's at Kaizer Chiefs but he doesn't have the consistency to play everyday, that's the thing that we want to address as well in those situations,” the coach added.

“Sometimes the player signs for Kaizer Chiefs and then he gets there and he's kind of relaxed that he has arrived.

“This is a big team, the results are a must and the players have to perform everyday and that's where we need the players to understand that there is no other way than to be consistent and work hard everyday and everything is gonna go by the performance and as well by the competitions between players if they are in the same position."
