Betway Premiership returns with a bang as Kaizer Chiefs down Orbit in Gqeberha

Orbit made the brighter start and threatened early, with Thabang Mahlangu striking the upright inside the opening 10 minutes as Chiefs struggled to settle. The hosts capitalised on that momentum in the 22nd minute when Lebohang Lesako delivered a teasing cross that Mbulelo Wagaba expertly headed in from a tight angle to give Orbit a 1-0 lead.

Chiefs, however, began to assert control as the half wore on, enjoying the bulk of possession and pushing for an equaliser. Their pressure paid off just before the break when Wandile Duba latched onto a pass from Bradley Cross and struck cleanly to level matters at 1-1 heading into half-time.

The visitors carried that momentum into the second half, dictating proceedings with a commanding share of possession. Although Orbit showed occasional attacking intent on the counter, Chiefs looked the more composed and dangerous side.

Their dominance was rewarded in the 68th minute when Thabiso Monyane's clever dummy created space for Mduduzi Shabalala, who fired a powerful shot past Cyril Chibwe to put Chiefs ahead for the first time in the match.

With Orbit forced to chase the game, gaps began to open, and Chiefs took full advantage. In the 79th minute, substitute Flavio Silva turned provider, setting up Siphesihle Ndlovu to calmly find the corner of the net and extend the lead to 3-1.

From there, Chiefs comfortably saw out the match, even as goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma picked up a late booking for time wasting. Orbit struggled to break through a well-organised defence, with their limited possession - just 27% compared to Chiefs' 73% - reflecting the visitors' control.
