Kaizer Chiefs stunned by TS Galaxy in Mpumalanga

TS Galaxy claimed a shock 1-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

It was a slow start to the match with Chiefs having the greater margin of possession and the Amakhosi threatened in the 13th minute when Ranga Chivaviro's header from a Reeve Frosler delivery grazed the crossbar.

Before that, Galaxy defender Mlungisi Mbunjana got on the end of a corner from Higor Vidal, but the volley was too high.

Seven minutes later, the Rockets were breaking with speed on the counter-attack and Lindohuhle Mbatha played Kamogelo Sebelebele through but his shot was a tame one right down the throat of the goalkeeper.

Chivaviro departed the field on the half-hour mark with injury. Next MacBeth Mahlangu was outsprinted by Chiefs attacker Christian Saile, who went one on one with the keeper but his effort went inches wide of the left-hand post.

Galaxy took the lead in the 48th minute when Vidal's shot hit the post and unluckily ricocheted back off Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson and into the back of the net.

Petersen had to make a string of saves before a Chiefs corner was headed narrowly over by centre-back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe.

Lehlohonolo Mojela's right footed shot from outside the box was then saved in the centre of the goal after being assisted by the influential Mbunjana. Saile's effort for Chiefs from a tight angle on the right then forced Galaxy goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak to be alert at his near post.

Saile's effort was then punched away for a corner by Kolak. It was delivered by Yusuf Maart and Chiefs' other centre-back Given Msimango headed over this time.

Petersen was having a busy game and made a stunning double-stop when he got up quickly to his feet after having dived to his left to make the initial save.

Petersen then made another good save to deny Sebelebele from close range after he made an excellent run.

Galaxy were the side looking more likely to score and in the end Sead Ramovic's side closed out the match comfortably.
