Chiefs will host Stellenbosch FC tomorrow at FNB Stadium, in what will be their first league game this month.
They are currently fourth on the log with 30 points from 15 matches; besides the games in hand, it’s the 11-goal difference in the goals scored that Chiefs needs to address.
Kwinika says this is one of their lessons from the CAF Confederation Cup.
"I think mainly on that, it's a conversation we had in terms of saying, boys, how did we not qualify in the CAF, it was a matter of goals and conceding goals. So, that on its own was a defining factor of everything else in that,” Kwinika said.
“I think now going forward, everyone is aware what impact it has, probably at a later stage. So, I think from that we learnt our lesson, we paid our school fees in cash and we'll get better from that."
Chiefs are eight points behind Pirates but have got two games in hand, they are five points behind Sundowns with only one game in hand.
The goal difference is not a big issue according to co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef, with still three games to play against both teams, starting this weekend in the Soweto Derby.
"We said that defensively we are better than last season. It's difficult now for us to score, we are struggling, we are creating a lot of opportunities but we are missing a lot of chances,” Ben Youssef said.
“I think it was the point that we set the meeting with the players that we were out of the CAF regarding the goal difference. Like I said, there are still 15 games, so it's early to discuss the goal difference in the PSL but I think it's important to think about how we kill the game where you score first."
The league title race is set to be one of the most intense ones, with the big three now firmly focused on the number one spot.
For Chiefs and Pirates, who are both out of the Nedbank Cup, and for Sundowns, they have no other targets left this season other than the league.
The Brazilians are still chasing their second star in the CAF Champions League.
