Kaizer Chiefs committed to building women’s team from the ground up

Kaizer Chiefs head of digital Kemiso Motaung says it forms part of the club’s long-term strategy for their newly launched women’s team to begin in a lower division, ensuring sustainable growth from the ground up.

This follows Amakhosi’s official launch of Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, who are set to compete in the Gauteng Sasol League after acquiring the status of Kwa-Thema outfit, Springs Home Sweepers.

Speaking to SABC Sport, Motaung emphasised the importance of starting from the bottom in order to fully understand and develop within the women’s game.

“You can never buy success, and even if you do, it takes time. We’ve learned from our father that you need to start from the bottom. This will help us understand the women’s game much better. The Sasol League is an important platform, and we will approach it with the respect it deserves,” said Motaung.

Motaung also unpacked the significance of the Kaizer Chiefs brand in elevating the Sasol League, noting that it carries a strong sense of social responsibility and influence.

“We are coming in to ask how we can contribute to making women’s football better. We want to elevate the women’s game and improve player salaries. This is a big brand, and we are committed to improving conditions in women’s football. We want to make a meaningful impact and help the Sasol League grow,” added Motaung.

She further called on corporate South Africa to invest in women’s football, expressing confidence that Kaizer Chiefs’ involvement will help attract sponsors to the game.

“We want brands and partners to come on board and help take the team to the next level. Growing women’s football requires a collective effort. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we have engaged SAFA and other stakeholders to ensure that the standard of the game continues to improve in the country,” she expressed.
