Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti rules out signing Mauro Icardi

Speaking after a 4-1 win over Parma, Spalletti emphasised that Juventus are targeting a player with specific traits to fit the team, rather than pursuing big names from the past.

The match at Stadio Ennio Tardini saw Bremer score twice, with Weston McKennie and Jonathan David also on the scoresheet. The victory lifted Juventus into the Serie A top four, though Spalletti cautioned against reading too much into league positions. "It is better not to look at statistics," he said. "Football is more about sudden changes of pace, duels and second balls. Whoever is more wide awake there can win the match."

Spalletti has mentioned other options in the striker market, including Crystal Palaceâ™s Jean-Philippe Mateta. Icardi, currently at Galatasaray, had been linked due to his 46 goals in 73 games under Spalletti at Inter between 2017 and 2019.

However, the Juventus boss made clear there will be no reunion. "He is a good lad, a lovely person, and a fantastic striker. But we don't want Icardi. We are looking for a player with specific characteristics. If we don't find him, then we'll stay as we are," Spalletti said.

In squad news, Juventus completed two late moves in January. Jeremie Boga joined on loan from Nice, adding another attacking option on the wings, while Emil Holm arrived from Bologna in a swap deal involving Joao Mario, strengthening defensive depth. Juventus have now won four of their last five Serie A away games, an improvement on their previous 18 trips where they managed just five victories.

Spalletti also confirmed fitness concerns following the Parma game. Young midfielder Kenan Yildiz was substituted at half-time with pain and is doubtful for Juventusâ™ Coppa Italia tie against Atalanta. "He now has a bit of pain even when walking, so we have to evaluate it, but it shouldn't be too serious," Spalletti said.

Juventus head into the final days of the window focused on precise recruitment, maintaining team balance, and managing player fitness, with Spalletti clearly setting the tone for the second half of the season.
