Juventus suffered a 2-0 defeat at Genoa, and AC Milan's unbeaten league start ended with a thrilling 4-2 loss to Bologna.
Inter leave it late again to overcome Venezia
Inter extended their winning run in all competitions to four matches with a 2-0 victory over Venezia, although they needed two fortunate goals to overcome a determined home side.
Venezia created several first-half chances, with Akor Adams missing a headed opportunity before goalkeeper Ivan Provedel produced excellent saves to deny Adams and Lion Lauberbach. The hosts also had a goal ruled out for offside and hit the crossbar.
Inter eventually broke the deadlock when Marcus Thuram's low cross was turned into his own net by Matias Moreno. Carlos Augusto then headed home a second goal that took a significant deflection off Redouane Halhal.
The victory sent Inter back to the top of the table, while Venezia suffered their ninth defeat in 10 competitive games and remained in the bottom three.
De Bruyne inspires Napoli to emphatic win over Monza
Napoli returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-1 victory over Monza, ending a frustrating run of results and boosting their push for European qualification.
Rasmus Hojlund opened the scoring after Giovanni Di Lorenzo split the defence with an excellent pass, allowing the striker to finish into the bottom corner. Monza responded through Gustavo Varela, who headed home Jay Robinson's cross after earlier chances had threatened Napoli's goal.
Napoli regained the lead shortly after half-time when Matteo Politano capitalised on a defensive mistake. Politano then delivered a corner that Rafa Marin headed home before Kevin De Bruyne completed the scoring, finishing calmly after collecting Noa Lang's through ball.
The result provided Napoli with a much-needed boost, while Monza continued their worst-ever start to a Serie A campaign.
Genoa punish Juventus to increase pressure on Spalletti
Juventus suffered another setback as Genoa secured a 2-0 home victory, extending their impressive run at Stadio Luigi Ferraris and increasing the pressure on coach Luciano Spalletti.
Genoa took the lead after 12 minutes when Kingsley Ehizibue finished Tommaso Baldanzi's delivery via a deflection off Andrea Cambiaso. Baldanzi then doubled the advantage before the half-hour mark, with his close-range effort taking another deflection, this time off Gleison Bremer.
Juventus pushed forward after the break but lacked the quality to turn their pressure into goals. Bremer headed narrowly over the crossbar, while the visitors failed to make their other opportunities count.
The defeat dropped Juventus to eighth in the table ahead of a meeting with Spalletti's former club Napoli. Genoa, meanwhile, moved five points clear of the relegation zone after ending a six-match winless run against Juventus.
Mbangula hat-trick ends AC Milan's unbeaten run
Bologna produced an impressive performance to beat AC Milan 4-2 at San Siro, ending the hosts' unbeaten Serie A start as Samuel Mbangula scored a hat-trick.
Mbangula opened the scoring on his first Serie A start, but Milan responded through Alphadjo Cisse, who capitalised on a defensive mistake. Cisse struck again after Fikayo Tomori supplied an excellent cross to put Milan ahead.
Bologna fought back after half-time, drawing level when Juan Miranda's dangerous delivery was turned into his own net by Davide Bartesaghi. Miranda then set up Mbangula to restore the visitors' lead before the forward completed his hat-trick on the counter-attack.
Milan struggled to respond, with Francesco Camarda missing a late chance to equalise. Bologna held on for a memorable victory, giving coach Raffaele Palladino a third consecutive away win in Serie A.
