Both results had a significant impact at the bottom end of the table, with Parma and Fiorentina collecting valuable points as they look to move away from danger.
Parma punish Atalanta in 3-0 away rout
Parma secured their first away league victory of the season in impressive fashion, handing Atalanta another frustrating defeat at the New Balance Arena.
Atalanta started brightly and thought they had taken an early lead through Nikola Krstovic, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Charles De Ketelaere also missed a good opportunity before Parma struck against the run of play shortly before half-time. Giovanni Fabbian headed home from Vincent Sierro's corner to give the visitors the advantage.
Atalanta's problems increased just two minutes after the restart when Davide Zappacosta turned El Bilal Toure's delivery into his own net. Parma then made it 3-0 through Simone Lontani, who produced an excellent finish from outside the penalty area.
Krstovic and Mario Pasalic both came close to reducing the deficit, but goalkeeper Giovanni Daffara produced important saves, while Pasalic also struck the crossbar. The defeat extended Atalanta's winless run in all competitions to five matches, leaving them 13th in Serie A. Parma, meanwhile, climbed out of the relegation zone.
Fiorentina fight back to end winless run against Sassuolo
Fiorentina returned to winning ways with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium, ending a five-match winless run in Serie A.
Sassuolo initially looked capable of building on their home advantage and took the lead midway through the first half. Domenico Berardi and Sebastiano Esposito combined to release Armand Lauriente, who finished through David de Gea's legs.
Fiorentina responded just before half-time when Mateo Pellegrino collected Alieu Njie's pass inside the penalty area, turned his marker and finished into the bottom corner. Njie then completed the turnaround five minutes into the second half with an impressive curling effort after cutting inside from the edge of the box.
Sassuolo refused to give up and levelled through Lauriente, who controlled Nemanja Matic's clever pass before smashing the ball into the roof of the net from a difficult angle.
However, Fiorentina regained the lead with 11 minutes remaining when Franco Mastantuono finished Pote's pass to score a goal his lively performance deserved. Victor Valdepenas then sealed the victory deep into stoppage time with the finishing touch to a quick counterattack.
The victory was only Fiorentina's second in the league this season and lifted them out of the relegation zone, level on points with Sassuolo. The defeat extended Sassuolo's winless run to six matches.
