How Cavin Johnson is helping Kaizer Chiefs strikers regain scoring touch

Kaizer Chiefs acting head coach Cavin Johnson has revealed mechanisms that they have put in place to help their players find the back of the net.

Chiefs have not scored in the two matches they have played so far this year since the season resumed after the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Du Preez missed sitters against Royal AM and Milford FC respectively and has come under heavy criticism from the fans.

Johnson reveals how they are trying to better the situation.

"As the coach after the game it's always easy to talk. We can always say that was easy, that was difficult but you know the bouncing the ball, those fine seconds in between, contact with the ball and the head movement and the body movement is very difficult to analyse. We try and cut that as best as we can in order to show our players afterwards what the mistake was if there was a mistake," Johnson said.

It is not only Du Preez, who has been struggling to find the back of the net at Chiefs.

In this past game against Milford, Johnson fielded all his four strikers, with Jason Gonzalez and Christian Saile having started alongside Du Preez, but there was still no return.

Ranga Chivaviro was also brought in during the second half, but he also missed a penalty during extra-time.

Johnson says at the training sessions they come up with a lot of drills to find ways of breaking the mentality, including scoring into an empty net.

"But more importantly I always say that when a player doesn't do that, the only way you can try and do it is to emulate it in the next training session and get them to kick more and score more and sometimes score with no goalkeepers and sometimes score with three goalkeepers. So, you try and play around with a lot of those types of things in your training sessions and yes, we're doing that and hopefully it breaks the mentality," Johnson added.

Later today Chiefs face a tricky Swallows team, that has undergone so many changes in terms of technical personnel and the players’ personnel as well.
