The fixture had to be completed on Sunday at King Zwelithini Stadium after severe lightning forced officials to suspend play at halftime the previous day, with Abafana Bes’thende holding a narrow 1-0 lead.
While pleased with the result and clean sheet, Mngqithi admitted his players created enough opportunities to win by a wider margin.
"I was happy with how the boys played, a lot of composure in our passing game. We did not concede too many chances, we did well in our defensive moments and I think we could have been a little bit more clinical in the final third because I think we created a lot of opportunities but to have 17 shots at goals is for me encouraging. It suggests that the players really wanted this win,” Mnqithi said.
Mngqithi introduced three adjustments to his starting eleven when the match resumed, with in-form striker Junior Dion and Angelo van Rooi coming in for Lungelo Nguse and Philani Khumalo, and both attackers rewarded that decision with goals.
Mngqithi is pleased with the growth in his squad.
"I'm so excited when I see the boys that have no PSL experience at all, where they are now compared to when they arrived at the club and I think it's clear when you look at the last line we had, you are already having two players that were in the ABC Motsepe last year,” the coach added.
“And you as you go up in the pitch you still find a midfielder that was in the ABC Motsepe and has never played as a central midfielder and I'm playing him as a central midfielder and I think he did very well. Up top we were also very strong with Van Rooi, with Dion."
