Gavin Hunt still puzzled by Peter Mokaba as SuperSport United ‘home’ venue

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt remains puzzled by the idea of using the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane as the side’s home venue this season.

The Lucas Moripe Stadium was understood to have been unavailable until October, forcing Matsatsantsa to host Richards Bay in Limpopo for their opening DStv Premiership encounter on Saturday.

However, the PSL on Friday announced Mamelodi Sundowns would play Kaizer Chiefs at the Atteridgeville site on Wednesday – much to Hunt’s surprise.

"I was really worried today. As a home game, I would have been far more relaxed because I am at home, but it’s clashing, but it is a home game, anyway," Hunt said.

"But the most important thing, it wasn't pretty at times. There was some good stuff at times but obviously it's very new. A lot of new players tryna gel in. But there were signs of really good stuff at times which is the most important thing.

I can't ask for more from the players but we've got a hell of a week so let's see what happens."

The four-times league winning mentor says the logistics of travelling to Polokwane will take its toll on the squad.

"A home game takes one day, now a home game takes three days. You come the day before, today, and then tomorrow, you know what I mean? So, at home, we don't camp we just go straight into the games. So, that suites us, that suites our mentality.

A home game is one day, here it's three days. It's disappointing because yesterday I saw the announcement, Chiefs [Kaizer] playing Sundowns [Mamelodi] at Lucas and that's the biggest crowd you gonna have at Lucas. I just don't know how these things work."
