Galaxy look to reset ahead of Nedbank Cup semi

TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic has blamed costly defensive errors for his side’s heavy defeat to Orlando Pirates.

The Rockets were outplayed at Mbombela Stadium, conceding six goals in their Betway Premiership clash on Sunday, including an own goal by captain Mlungisi Mbunjana.

Beganovic admits the team struggled to cope both defensively and tactically, adding that the nature of the match caught them off guard.

"We didn't expect this kind of game at all. We prepared ourselves for something different, but after the red card in the second minute everything turned and made everything so much more difficult for us.

"Orlando Pirates are a quality team, in the midfield and up front, but too many unnecessary mistakes cost us a lot."

The result means Pirates have completed a league double over Galaxy, having also claimed a 2-0 win in their earlier meeting this season.

Beganovic says his side failed to respond once they fell behind, and noted that no team has dominated them in this manner at Mbombela Stadium before.

The defeat sees TS Galaxy slip to 11th place on the standings, extending their winless run to seven matches in the league.

With domestic competition paused for the FIFA international break, Beganovic says the squad will use the time to reflect, recover, and regroup ahead of the final stretch of the season.

"We need to analyse everything and we need to try and fix our mistakes from this game. I think the FIFA break has come at the best time for us to refresh ourselves not only mentally, but physically as well."

While their top-eight hopes remain under jeopardy, Beganovic believes the Nedbank Cup offers a realistic opportunity to rescue their campaign.

TS Galaxy are set to host Milford FC in the semi-finals on Sunday, 5 April, with a place in the final at stake.
