Freese sounds alarm over shrinking margin for error after another Magesi defeat

Magesi FC coach Allan Freese says they are running out of matches to secure maximum points, with only six games left in the 2025/2027 season.

Freese was speaking after a heavy 4-1 loss to Kaizer Chiefs at the New Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane last night.

They have now collected only 17 points from 24 matches this season and are sitting just a point behind Marumo Gallants and Orbit College, on the same number of points.

"And they are, every day they get few and fewer but there's still other games to play. We can never know what's gonna happen. Now we are gonna go prepare for the one game on Sunday, that is the one thing we must go and prepare for, it's the one game on Sunday," Freese said.

Freese, a former Platinum Stars and Highlands Park head coach, joined Magesi in February this year, replacing John Maduka, who is complaining about the team’s defence.

After conceding a last-minute goal against Sekhukhune United over the weekend, they couldn’t stop the floodgates against Chiefs.

"Ok, yes, not a good result but I thought for the first 30 minutes we did well. We even had a chance to score, the last game also when we lost we went home, we worked on trying to find goals where we can score," the coach added.

"Today was an opposite way, today we didn't defend well. So, I think again now, do you work on the attack or you work on the defense but we'll go back and we'll work, there's nothing else I can say."

Magesi also have the second-worst defensive record in the league, with a -18 goal difference compared to Orbit’s -22.

Last night’s heavy loss also didn’t help, another concern for the 69-year-old coach.

"Yeah but then we were speaking about it on the bench that it's a worrying factor, that's why I'm saying, why are we conceding so much now all of a sudden. It has become a worrying factor now for everybody."
