The Super Eagles boss initially named a 27-man squad for the four-nation competition, where Nigeria will defend their Unity Cup crown against Zimbabwe, India, and Jamaica later this month. However, the squad has now been strengthened with the inclusion of Yira Sor and Tijani Al Ameen.
According to All Nigeria Soccer, Belgian-based winger Sor and Shooting Stars midfielder Al Ameen have both received late invitations, taking the total number of players selected for the tournament to 28.
Sor's return to the national team setup comes after an impressive season with KRC Genk, despite enduring a quiet outing during Nigeria's friendly match against Jordan in March. The winger is now expected to use the Unity Cup as another opportunity to stake his claim under Chelle.
His inclusion is believed to be connected to the unavailability of promising youngster Zadok Yohanna after Swedish side AIK reportedly opted against releasing the player due to club obligations.
Meanwhile, Al Ameen's selection further highlights Chelle's willingness to integrate local talent into the national team. The invitation increases the number of Nigeria Premier Football League players in camp to eight.
Among the home-based stars already named in the squad are Chibueze Oputa and Obinna Igboke of Rangers International, as well as Elias Ochobi from Rivers United.
With the Unity Cup also serving as preparation for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, Chelle appears determined to use the competition to assess both overseas-based and domestic players as he continues building his squad for future assignments.
