Following in the footsteps of his son Robbie, who had been invited by the club to attend the final home match of the 2024/25 season against Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Freddie Maake, widely recognized as president of the South African National Supporters (SANASU), has long been a defining figure on the nation’s football terraces.
He is globally associated with the rise of the vuvuzela—the iconic instrument that became synonymous with South African football culture during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Now, the Maake legacy is expanding beyond borders.
Freddie Maake’s visit to Mainz was more than symbolic—it reflects a growing and structured partnership between South Africa and Mainz 05.
His son, Robbie Maake Jr., widely known as Cellular_jnr, has been actively representing the club in South Africa for some time.
Beyond his role as a brand ambassador, he has played a key part in youth football development initiatives led by Mainz, supporting grassroots programs and engaging young talents across the country.
Later this month, Cellular_jnr will host a digital awareness workshop for children in Cape Town in collaboration with the club, focusing on responsible internet use and empowerment through education.
The initiative will coincide with the official visit of Meikel Schönweitz, Technical Director of Mainz 05, and Thomas Henkel, who leads the club’s internationalization strategy—marking another important step in strengthening Mainz’s footprint and social impact in South Africa.
Mainz 05 continues to embrace its international audience, and its connection.
