Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi provides update on hamstring injury setback

Fulham and Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi has provided an update on the hamstring injury he sustained during the Premier League clash against Brentford on April 18.

The Nigeria international was forced off just before half-time after pulling up unchallenged while chasing a loose ball, before heading straight down the tunnel. He was replaced by Samuel Chukwueze as Fulham were dealt a blow, Allnigeriasoccer.com reported.

Iwobi has since missed the Cottagers' last three league matches due to the setback, but revealed he has been trying to stay active as he awaits clarity on the severity of the injury.

Speaking on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast, the Super Eagles star explained how he is managing the recovery process.

"I'm just walking through my neighbourhoods, going through the shops. Obviously, the reason why I'm doing this is to get some blood flow and oxygen into the legs, make sure my legs are not just indoors, and keep active," he said.

"Right now, as it stands, I've got a hamstring injury, so I'm going to keep on the move and get my steps in. It's unfortunate to get a hamstring injury. I appreciate the support and the love that everyone's showing me, and everyone checking on me.

"As of now, I don't know how bad it is. I'm able to walk, though I've got a limp, so that's a positive. I've got a scan soon. So by the time this video is out, I would have had my results, so I'm praying for a speedy recovery."

Iwobi also admitted the mental strain that comes with being sidelined, despite not being someone who suffers frequent injuries.

"I'm just grateful that I don't really get injured on a regular basis because it is mentally challenging. Even me, now that I'm injured, I'm just fuming. I can't be active, I can't move freely. But that's life; it is part of the game."

The 28-year-old has been a key figure for Fulham this season, making 27 Premier League appearances, contributing four goals and three assists while clocking 2,279 minutes.
