DStv Premiership: Stellenbosch claim narrow win over AmaZulu

Stellenbosch FC secured their third win in four DStv Premiership matches by overcoming AmaZulu FC with a narrow 1-0 victory.

The match showcased strategic lineup decisions, with Sede Dion leading the Usuthu attack, despite Augustine Kwem's impressive hat-trick performance benched. Stellies, eager for success, reintroduced Oura Anicet, Sihle Ndluli and Thabo Moloisane.

Dion had an early opportunity on the 12th minute, receiving a precise delivery from Wayde Jooste. However, mistiming the supply cost him a chance to make a significant impact.

The Maroons, determined to seize control, broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark with Anicet delivering a well-taken finish. Despite Usuthu's attempts to level the score through Celimpilo Ngema, Sage Stephens, Stellenbosch's goalkeeper, stood firm.

As the first-half concluded, Rowan Human had a close-range attempt for the hosts, but it soared over the crossbar. The second half saw Tshepang Moremi substituted in for Human as Stellenbosch maintained their lead.

Dion, eager to make amends, found himself with another opportunity from 12 yards after a foul on Ramahlwe Mphahlele, but Stephens denied him once again. The later stages of the match unfolded in an end-to-end fashion, with both teams vying for goals, yet the Maroons held strong to secure the win.

Despite the home team's efforts, they struggled to regain momentum, resulting in Stellenbosch FC claiming all three points and climbing back into the top eight, leapfrogging AmaZulu FC.
