The Chilli Boys were thrashed 5-1 by AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon, leaving the Eastern Cape based outfit just four points above the relegation zone in 13th on the log, with four matches to play.
Vilakazi says they will have to dig deep and reflect on how they can bounce back to save their status.
"The contribution, I think, is no longer the same. When I arrived in this team, there was hunger, there was ambition that, 'No, no, no, we will definitely save the team,'" recalled Vilakazi.
"But I think that has faded a bit where I see my players being too relaxed now and being complacent, in terms of making sure the team does not go down.
"But it's unfortunate, we will try and redeem ourselves, we have no other option but to make sure that we redeem ourselves."
Azola Matrose scored the sole goal for the visitors in a match they dominated in the early stages of the first half, but the coach says ball possession means very little if you don’t convert chances, as Usuthu went into half-time leading 2-1.
"We started very well where we dominated in our offensive play, but in the first half – even though we never created so many chances, I think we were dominant enough," he added.
"But unfortunately ball possession doesn't win you games, you have to score in order to win game, and though we managed to score a goal and lead, we still failed to protect our lead and allowed the opposition to score two goals and then we were trailing."
