Mobara, who had last kicked a ball seven months before Chippa came calling, told SABC Sport in an exclusive interview on Friday night in Pretoria that the move was make-or-break for him.
The former AmaZulu utility player had seemingly given up on securing a deal, but the Eastern Cape-based side came to his rescue...
"I was ready to pack my bags and leave immediately. I just wanted a chance and I really appreciate what the club did, the chairman, the coach and the players for also accepting me with open arms.
"There was no way I wasn't going to take this opportunity."
Mobara, who hails from Cape Town and is a product of the famed and productive Ajax Cape Town development academy, reveals that he had started keeping fit with former Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Santos when Chippa approached him...
"I have literally not touched a ball in seven months. I was training with Santos for just two days. I then played a friendly which I took as a good exercise, and the next day Chippa called."
Reflecting on their 4-1 loss to log leaders and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday at Loftus stadium, Mobara says they need to focus on the positives from that game, as they build up to tomorrow evening’s game vs Siwelele FC on Gqeberha.
"There is a lot of positives I can take away from our last game considering that we are in a survival state, so we need to collect all the positives and things that can breed more confidence in the hearts and souls of the players.
"A time for survival means points, and if I reflect on the start of our last game, there was no fear in what we aim to do.
Chippa are just one of the few teams in the league who play in front of decent crowds, especially at the Buffalo City stadium in KuGompo City. The 32-year-old immensely talented player says consistency mixed with a good brand of football is going to be very important for their survival...
