JVW kicked off the tournament on a high note on Friday, registering a 3-0 victory over the University of Limpopo, followed by a 2-0 win against NWU Soccer Institute, before closing out their opening fixtures with another 2-0 triumph over Mphehli All Stars.
Speaking to SABC Sport, Gordon highlighted the competitiveness of the Pirates Cup, noting that development teams consistently rise to the occasion.
“I’m excited that we started on a high and we are looking to remain consistent. I believe the last few games are going to be a really good challenge for us, and that is why I enjoy participating in this tournament. My favourite thing about the Pirates Cup is that no matter who you play against, it’s always going to be a challenge and something to look forward to,” said Gordon.
The Banyana Banyana rising star also underlined the tournament’s significance in advancing the women’s game in South Africa.
“It’s important for growth, new challenges, staying competitive and ensuring there is a platform for female footballers to showcase their talents. It is an important tournament to help grow women’s football in the country,” added Gordon.
Looking ahead, Gordon shared her expectations for their next batch of fixtures, set to take place on Monday at AW Muller Sports Complex in Johannesburg.
“I’m excited and ready for what’s to come. I believe the team has good energy going forward after getting all three wins, but we still understand that it will be very challenging to stay in form throughout the tournament. We are up for the challenge and excited to see what comes from it.”
