Carlo Ancelotti defends Vinicius Jr: 'He made a mistake'

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has played down Vinicius Junior's angry reaction to being substituted in Real Madrid's 2-1 Clasico win over Barcelona, confirming that the forward admitted his mistake and apologised.

The Real Madrid star, visibly frustrated after being replaced by Arda Guler in the 72nd minute, went straight down the tunnel instead of joining his teammates on the bench. The incident drew criticism, but Ancelotti - who coached Vinicius at Madrid - made clear that the matter has been handled privately.

"We have a very good relationship with Vinicius," Ancelotti said while announcing Brazil's squad for November friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia. "I told him he made a mistake. He understood, he apologised, and the matter is resolved."

Vinicius later issued a public apology, admitting that emotions got the better of him. Reports from Spain suggest he also spoke directly with coach Xabi Alonso to clear the air.

Ancelotti insisted there are no lingering issues.

"He doesn't have a problem here, or with his club, or with his coach. He's a very important player for us. As for his personal life, it's his - I'm just his coach."

The incident briefly overshadowed Real Madrid's win, but both Alonso's calm handling and Vinicius' apology prevented further fallout.

Ancelotti also named his squad for Brazil's upcoming friendlies, featuring Éder Militao, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Vitor Roque, while Neymar was left out as he continues his recovery from injury.

"He made a mistake, he realised it, and he apologised," Ancelotti concluded. "The matter is closed."
