Cape Town Spurs part ways with technical director Sean Connor

SABC Sport can confirm that Cape Town Spurs have parted ways with technical director Sean Connor – just five months after his appointment.

The Urban Warriors have been mum about the decision as they look to concentrate on their battle to avoid relegation from the DStv Premiership with nine games to go after this afternoon’s clash against Moroka Swallows.

Connor, who holds a UEFA Pro License and briefly took the reins at Spurs when Shaun Bartlett was sacked on the back of a seven-game losing streak, is understood to have had a fall-out with new coach Ernst Middendorp.

The 56-year-old had lofty ambitions for Spurs having arrived several weeks before Bartlett and his entire backroom staff were sacked.

He worked alongside Vasili Manousakis before he returned to his role as technical director when Middendorp was hired in November.

Efforts to get comment from the Spurs hierarchy and Connor himself were unsuccessful and this is further evidence The Urban Warriors do not plan on making any official public announcement.

Connor was spotted at the Bayhill Premier Cup, one of Cape Town’s most successful youth tournaments currently underway in the Mother City, and confirmed to several people that he was no longer technical director at Spurs.

He is also not new to the Premier Soccer League having had a very short stint at Black Leopards in 2014, and SABC Sport has been informed Connor is keen on looking for opportunities elsewhere in South Africa.
