Following their relegation to the ABC Motsepe League and the shift to amateur status, Spurs have been entangled in multiple legal battles of a similar nature.
The wider football community believed the club had finally accepted that several contracted players could leave as free agents after losing high-profile cases at both the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber [DRC] and a subsequent SAFA arbitration.
But the saga appears to have a few more legs.
A new matter now centres on 20-year-old Braithwaite, recently seen training with the Pirates reserve side.
Spurs remain bruised from watching Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United and AmaZulu scoop up academy-raised talent, among them captain Asanele Velebayi, without any compensation to date.
Although the mother body dismissed their grievance in arbitration, Spurs are still holding off on granting Braithwaite his release, slowing down what appears to be an inevitable move to the Buccaneers.
It’s understood the player’s family has urged the club to resolve the issue swiftly, but Spurs have instead referred Braithwaite to their legal representatives and his management team, Football First.
CEO Alexi Efstathiou declined to comment.
Braithwaite has been training with the Pirates DStv Diski Challenge squad for several weeks but remains unavailable for official selection until Spurs issue his clearance.
The youngster has repeatedly made his intentions clear that he wants out of Ikamva.
